A beautiful loft in a medieval building just steps from the aquarium
INFORMATION
In the center of Genoa, within a 500-meter radius from the aquarium, the children's city, the old port, the sea museum, and the national museum of Palazzo Spinola. In the heart of the historic city, there is a loft with a mezzanine, created inside a medieval building called "Palazzo Pellicceria." The palace was built in the 15th century and was listed among the "Palazzi dei Rolli" in the 16th century. The building was seriously damaged during the naval bombing of February 9, 1941, by the Royal Navy. Part of the medieval building remained intact, and in the 1950s, the building underwent a massive restoration, preserving all the remaining medieval parts, and was used as a telephone exchange (SIP). Recently, the building has been restored again, bringing it (in a more modern way) back to its original purpose, that is, a building dedicated to hospitality (for princes, cardinals, ambassadors, and great merchants of the 16th century; for tourists today.)
The Loft has a mezzanine, is furnished in a very modern and comfortable style, is functional, and can accommodate up to five people.
The internal amenities of the loft are:
- kitchen complete with electric oven, microwave, induction hob with four burners, refrigerator and freezer, dishwasher.
- double bedroom on the mezzanine with open wardrobe, chest of drawers, wall-mounted bedside tables with LED light with two intensities and USB socket for charging phone/tablet, etc.
- living room with double sofa bed and single pouf bed.
- Bathroom with sink, toilet, bidet, and shower. The mirror above the sink is equipped with lighting with two color settings, one of which is ideal for makeup, and also has a defogging button that prevents fogging during the shower.
In addition to the internal amenities of the loft, the following services are available in the shared spaces and can be used free of charge:
On the same floor and just a few meters from the entrance door:
- equipped gym.
- meeting room.
- relaxation area with sofas and armchairs.
- restrooms.
Furthermore, on the basement floor, you can use, for a fee, an industrial laundry complete with dryer, for the exclusive use of residents. Payment is made using a rechargeable card that can be requested at the time of booking.

FOOD & DRINK
CULTURE
Genoa and all of Liguria are famous for Pesto and focaccia. Don’t miss out on a plate of trenette al pesto in one of the many trattorias in the alleys; you can find excellent ones in the area.
Focaccia deserves a special mention: it is eaten at all hours of the day, with a glass of white wine. True Genovese don’t mind having it for breakfast in the morning, dipped in cappuccino (an experience everyone should try at least once in their life)
Ligurian cuisine is also varied and ranges from the sea to the mountains...
Palazzo Spinola (on the small square in front of the building), now a museum, is worth a visit. Then Palazzo Ducale, Via Garibaldi with its palaces, the various churches you encounter while strolling through the alleys, the votive shrines (*), the Ducal Palace, the seaside promenade of Corso Italia, the fishing village of Boccadasse where you can reach the Capo Santa Chiara viewpoint with a stunning view of the gulf.... then get lost in the alleys (during the day), and discover medieval memories and semi-abandoned old palaces that still superbly preserve their architectural magnificence, despite massive interventions over the centuries to come.
CHILDREN
Children (and adults) can have fun at the Aquarium, visit the old galleon, the submarine in the dock, the sea museum, the children's city... All within a radius of 500 meters from the apartment.
ACCESS
The building, formerly known as "Palazzo Spinola-Pellicceria" after its owner Pietro Spinola, was built in the 15th century and was listed in the Rolli (*) in 1588 (**). Since 2006, it has been declared a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO. It is currently under the protection of the "Superintendence of Archaeology and Fine Arts." The palace is in a strategic position for visiting the city, nestled in the alleys, in front of the Palazzo Spinola museum, and 200 meters from the Aquarium, the Children's City, the Old Port, and the "Magazzini del Cotone" exhibition center. The building can be reached by metro (San Giorgio stop) from all Genoa railway stations, which are connected to the airport by a shuttle departing approximately every 30 minutes.

Genoa has always been a seafaring city and sailors have always been superstitious.
In past centuries, going to sea was much more dangerous than it is today and in case of storms, tempests, or gales, sailors, feeling their lives at risk, would invoke Saints, Madonnas, and all the deities to whom they were devoted, promising to have a votive shrine built in their honor if they managed to return home safe and sound.
Walking through the historic center of Genoa and looking up, it is very easy to come across these votive shrines, some very ancient, others more modern, all of good artistic value.
The proliferation of votive shrines in the 15th century (around that time) convinced the Doge of the time to take advantage of this custom, issuing an edict that required the construction of these shrines "Near the intersections of streets and squares, illuminated with candles or oil lamps for the whole night.
Thus, in fact, inventing public lighting for the historic center and obtaining it for free. (...we are Genoese)
